Our rooms
Sjätte Tunnan lies in 17th-century cellar vaults on Stora Nygatan in Gamla Stan. The vaults hold several rooms of different character — the stage in Bondesalen, the banners in Riddargången, and the hand-painted Adelssalen, our only fully private room.

The rooms are rearranged to suit the party.
Party - Where
2–8 people - a table in the vaults
Up to 52 - Adelssalen — its own room, fully private
Up to 120 - the whole cellar, booked exclusively
For parties, Adelssalen is our room. It is the only one fully separated from other guests, and the one we open when a party fills it.
If Adelssalen is already booked, we can put the tables in Riddargången together into a long table for up to 36 people. It sits in the open vaults, so other guests are seated around you.
If you would like the whole place to yourselves, the vaults can be booked exclusively for up to 120 guests — we add extra seating for large bookings.

For parties, Adelssalen or exclusive hire of the whole cellar — write to info@sjattetunnan.se. Tell us how many you are, which day, and whether you would like a gille, and we will come back with a suggestion.
If you would like to eat in the medieval order, we have our gillen — three courses and hypocras, for parties.
The rooms
Bondesalen — and the stage, Forum Vulgaris
This is where the stage is. It is called Forum Vulgaris — Latin for the people's forum — and it is where the bands play when we have live music.
The room seats 30 guests with the stage in place.
Listening to music in a 17th-century vault is not the same as doing so above ground — the sound bounces off the stone.
The rooms in the vaults are named after the medieval estates — the peasant, the knight, the nobility — and lie in that order: Bondesalen with the stage outermost, and furthest in Adelssalen.
Riddargången
The long passage through the vaults, with six tables along the sides and room for 36. The tables can be put together into a long table. We do that for parties when Adelssalen is already booked. The long table is therefore not a room of its own but an arrangement we make when needed. Let us know when you book if you would like to sit that way.
Adelssalen
Up to 52 people — and the only room fully separated from other guests. The walls are hand-painted by friends of the staff, after a 14th-century model: the Sala dei Pappagalli in Palazzo Davanzati in Florence, one of the best-preserved secular rooms of that period.
The room suits private parties, meetings, talks and celebrations.
Framsidan
The bar at street level at Stora Nygatan 41, with its own entrance and longer opening hours than the restaurant. Here we serve kroppkakor — Swedish potato dumplings with lingonberries and browned butter, filled with pork or mushroom, 125 SEK — every day from eleven until closing. The stairs lead down to Riddargången, so you move freely between the floors when both are open.
Step-free access
There is a wheelchair lift from the street down to the vaults. Many assume a medieval cellar is inaccessible — ours is not.
About the building
The vaults were built in the 17th century and were originally a tannery. The Middle Ages are our theme and our food, even though the vaults themselves are younger.
Much of the interior has been built by guests and friends of the house over the years: furniture, shields, paintings and objects collected since the restaurant opened.
